Another Loss for us in a Week 30 Encounter Against MUZA FC

April 29, 2024

On April 28, 2024, we suffered a 3-2 defeat against Mazabuka-based Maestro United Football Club in a week 30 match.

In the seventh minute, our opponents scored as their midfielder Mwiya Mwiya struck a free kick that left Lawrence Mulenga unable to stop it.

Later, the match evolved into a strategic battle as the two teams fought to score. The opposing defence successfully prevented Power from equalising, even though Linos Makwaza made a great leap to try and score off Kondwani Chiboni’s well-placed cross.

Jacob Kaunda attempted to rebound inside the box, but Jairos Tembo’s quick reactions prevented the ‘AbaYellow’ from scoring.

At the end of the first half, Maestro United was in the lead with a score of 1–0.

In the middle of the game, Coach Osward Mutapa made a substitution, bringing in Beby Onka Musangala and Fredrick Mulambia, in place of Austin Muwowo and Godfrey Ngwenya, respectively.

With only 59 minutes remaining, Musangala skillfully outmanoeuvred his opponents, delivering a precise pass to Joshua Mutale, who confidently scored the much-needed equaliser for Power.

In the 65th minute, the home team regained the lead when Biston Banda displayed quick reflexes and made a decisive strike.

The audience was left in awe by Joshua Mutale’s remarkable display, as he skillfully redirected a deflection from a MUZA player in the 79th minute, resulting in a 2-2 tie. The young player was on the verge of achieving a hat-trick.

As the match appeared to be a draw, Solomon Mpasela showed great awareness by passing the ball to Mwiya Mwiya in the penalty area. Mwiya’s fast, accurate shot reached the bottom left corner for the home team’s third goal, his second, and the match’s fifth.

Coach Mutapa made a substitution, bringing in Mwepu Kalonji in place of Linos Makwaza Jr, to secure a point. However, by the time the Congolese-born striker entered the game, it was already too late for him to make a significant impact.

Due to this loss, we are now ranked fourth in the league with 48 points, while league leaders Red Arrows have 64 points, second-placed Zesco United has 52 points, and third-placed FC MUZA has 49 points.

With only four games remaining in the league, there is still optimism about qualifying for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In our next feature, we host Forest Rangers at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on May 7, 2024.
