LUSAKA, 17th April 2025 – The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), in partnership with the Zambian Premier League, Power Dynamos Football Club and Nkana Football Club would like to call for the safety of all soccer fans at the highly anticipated Kitwe Derby between Nkana Football Club and Power Dynamos slated for this weekend.

RTSA Director and Chief Executive Officer Eng. Amon Mweemba has called on soccer fans to desist from drinking and driving, and using unroadworthy motor vehicles, as this compromises their safety and that of other road users.

Eng. Mweemba has also called on members of the public to continue making use of the RTSA National Call Centre by reporting all bad, careless and dangerous drivers on the Toll-Free line – 983 – and the WhatsApp line 0965-429499 before and after the derby.

And Power Dynamos Football Club (PDFC) President Eng. Benny Simukoko says there is life after the derby and urged all fans to be responsible by following all road rules and regulations.

“We do not want to lose lives this time around, please be safe,” appealed Eng. Simukoko.

Nkana Football Club President Eng. Joseph Silwamba added, “as we gear up for this exciting match, let us remember that our safety is paramount. I urge all supporters to travel responsibly and look out for one another. Together, we can create a memorable and safe derby experience.”

Meanwhile, Zambian Premier League (ZPL) Chief Executive Officer Joseph Chimpampwe said he is satisfied with how much the derby has grown over the past few years. He explained that this growth is the reason the ZPL supported moving the match to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to ensure the safety of fans attending the game.

“This is a family event,” he said, “we encourage families to drive to and from the stadium safely.”

The Kitwe Derby is scheduled to take place this Sunday, 20th April 2025, in Ndola at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium and is expected to draw a large crowd.

The RTSA, Power Dynamos, Nkana Football Club and the Zambian Premier League are working together to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all fans prior to, during and after the match.
