Power Dynamos Football Club (PDFC) secured a convincing five-nil victory at home against Forest Rangers Football Club, propelling them to third place on the league table.
The Osward Mutapa-tutored side only took five minutes to open the scoreline with an excellent Austin Muwowo finish. Captain Godfrey Ngwenya Godfrey provided the superb assist for the goal.
The visitors, led by former Power Dynamos Coach Mwenya Chipepo, pushed for a leveller in the 18th minute when former Power winger Tiki Chiluba had an unmarked chance to head the ball into the net, but unfortunately, he was unable to convert.
Instead, the home side took control of the game and secured a second goal, thanks to an impressive run by Fredrick Mulambia.
At halftime, Power Dynamos were in the lead with two goals.
Power appeared increasingly threatening in the second half, building on the momentum from the first half.
In the 57th minute, Austin Muwowo skillfully scored with a left-footed shot outside the boot, securing his second goal and giving Power Dynamos a three-goal lead.
With three goals already on the scoreboard, Coach Osward Mutapa was hungry for more. He made a strategic substitution, bringing in striker Moses Phiri for midfielder Fredrick Mulambia, who scored his goal from a brilliantly executed team effort in six minutes, bringing Power’s total to four.
In the 88th minute, there was a double substitution as Beby Onka Musangala and young Moses Mulenga came on for Godfrey Ngwenya and Austin Muwowo.
As if the score line had not told the story enough, Joshua Mutale’s relentless run, following a semblance of the typical passing game that power Dynamos is known for, ended up with the ball in the back of the net for goal number five after he rounded the charging Kakunta in the 94th minute.
Power are now third on the log, with 51 points, four behind Zesco United and two ahead of fourth-placed Maestro United Zambia Football Club (Muza FC).
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Power will travel to Solwezi district in the north-western part of Zambia for a week-long 32-man fixture against Trident Football Club.
