Power Dynamos Football Club suffered a surprising elimination from the ABSA tournament following a disappointing one-nil loss to FC MUZA in a quarterfinal match that took place at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
In the opening 10 minutes, Power Dynamos players asserted their dominance on the pitch. Joshua Mutale sent a pass into the box, hoping to find Boyeli, but the defenders quickly shut down his attempt and cleared the ball.
A lofted pass from Godfrey Ngwenya inside the dangerous area was unsuccessful, prompting the defenders to quickly react and clear the ball out.
Midfielder Beby Onka Musangala unexpectedly received a red card for retaliation and as a result, Power were down to 10 men as the first half ended scoreless.
The second half was filled with energy as both teams implemented the halftime instructions given by their coaches.
Joshua Mutale seemed to be in control, but unfortunately, he was repeatedly thwarted by the opponent’s goalkeeper, Jairos Tembo.
Coach Osward Mutapa brought in Austin Muwowo, John Soko, and Moses Mulenga to replace Godfrey Ngwenya, Aaron Katebe, and Andy Boyeli.
Despite the significant transformation following the substitutions, MUZA’s talisman, Andrew Phiri, was quick to the rebound within 9-yard box before slotting home, winning it for the Mazabuka-based boys.
Power’s attention is now directed towards the upcoming midweek fixture in the Zambian Super League against Mutondo Stars on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
On Saturday, April 20, 2024, they will also be hosting Nkana Football Club at the same venue.
