The FAZ/MTNN Super League Week 29 encounter between Power Dynamos and Nkana Football Club ended in defeat, going down to a rejuvenated Nkana FC side by 2 goals to nil.
In the fifth minute, Nkana went ahead with an Austin Banda shot, following a quick interchange of passes before beating Lawrence Mulenga in the Power goal.
Power’s best chances in the first half fell to Joshua Mutale, who shot wide while in on goal, and Godfrey Ngwenya, had his free kick saved by Nkana FC goalkeeper Monga Ndala.
The two teams went in for the break, with Nkana in the lead.
In the second half, Power Dynamos increased pressure on Nkana with constant attempts at goal but failed to find the back of the net.
Coach Osward Mutapa looked to the bench to increase his team’s chances of equalising, introducing Bebi Onka Musangala, Jacob Kaunda, Austin Muwowo, and Moses Mulenga for Linos Makwaza Jr., Godfrey Ngwenya, Fredrick Mulambia, and Andy Boyeli.
In the 79th minute, Nkana’s Musa Lamisa took advantage of a loose ball in the box from a corner to extend their lead.
The game, worth its hype for its intensity, passion, goals, and history of rivalry, closed after six minutes of additional time.
In their mid-week game played at Arthur Davies Stadium against Mutondo Stars, Power triumphed with a one-nil lead.
After today’s match, the Club maintains its third position on the league table with 48 points, a difference of 12 points from the league leaders, Red Arrows. Zesco United has also maintained its second spot on the table with 50 points.
